Area Students Explore Health Care Careers at HCCH Boot Camp

Area high school juniors and seniors recently dedicated a week of their summer vacation to exploring careers in health care at Harrison County Community Hospital (HCCH). The HCCH Health Careers Boot Camp, held from July 22 to 26, provided selected applicants with a unique opportunity to job shadow clinical departments and engage with staff across various hospital services.

“Our goal for Health Careers Boot Camp is to introduce the wide range of career opportunities available in health care and show students the career possibilities that are not just available in large cities but right here in Bethany,” said Abbe Ream, HCCH’s marketing director and program coordinator.

During the week-long camp, participants gained hands-on experience in multiple hospital departments, including the emergency department, rural health clinics, inpatient services, laboratory, respiratory therapy, imaging and therapy services, and outpatient specialty clinics. This comprehensive exposure allowed students to gain insights into the day-to-day operations of a hospital and the diverse career paths within health care.

“The HCCH Foundation Boot Camp is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the diverse range of services that HCCH provides. The students were engaged and interested in the various health careers available here in Bethany. HCCH is honored to have the opportunity to grow our own,” stated Tina Gillespie, HCCH’s CEO.

The HCCH Health Careers Boot Camp was made possible through the generous funding from the Howard and Leah Trullinger Endowed Scholarship Fund, administered by the HCCH Foundation. This support ensures that students have access to valuable educational experiences that can shape their future career choices in health care.
